How is the league organized?

  1. Create an account on the national-provincial matchplay platform.

  2. Search for a Community Tennis Leagues location near you and register for the upcoming session. See league locations. See session dates.






  3. We’ll put you in a group with 3-6 other players/pairs.

    If you are entering a doubles league, your partner needs to have an account and you must enter their name or member ID during registration.

  4. Arrange matches when and where you like based on the contact information provided.

  5. Enter your match results online to build your WTN and win prizes.

Scoring Formats

  • Community Tennis Leagues in British Columbia accept a wide variety of scoring formats. This includes:

    REGULAR 3 TIE-BREAK SETS (90 TO 120 MINS)

    • The first player/pair to win 6 games, with a margin of 2 games, wins that set.

    • If the score reaches 6 games all, a 7-point tie-break game shall be played. The first player/pair to win 7 points with a margin of 2 points, wins the set.

    • Player/pair needs to win 2 sets to win the match.

    • A match tie-break (10-point) can be played in lieu of the 3rd set. Player/pair needs to win 10 points, by a margin of 2 points, to win the match.

    BEST OF 3 SHORT SETS (60 MINS)

    • The first player/pair to win 4 games, with a margin of 2 games, wins that set.

    • If the scores reaches 4 games all, a 7-point tie-break game shall be played. First player/pair to win 7 points with a margin of 2 points, wins the set.

    • Player/pair needs to win 2 sets to win the match.

    • If the score reaches 1 set all, a match tie-break (10 points) will be played in lieu of the 3rd set. Player/pair needs to win 10-points, by a margin of 2 points, to win the match.

    • No ad-scoring is used. If the score reaches 40 all, a deciding point shall be played. The receiver shall choose the deuce or ad side to receive the serve.

    ONE PRO-SET (45 MINS)

    • The first player/pair to win 8 games, with a margin of 2 games, wins the match.

    • If the scores reaches 7 games all, a 7-point tie-break game shall be played. First player/pair to win 7 points with a margin of 2 points, wins the match.

    FAST4 - TENNIS AUSTRALIA FORMAT (45 TO 60 MINS)

    • The first player/pair to win 4 games, with a margin of 2 games, wins that set.

    • If the score reaches 3 games all, a 5-point tie-break, win by a margin of 2 points, game shall be played. If the tie-break score reaches 4 points all, one point (sudden death) shall be played to decide the winner of the set.

    • Player/pair needs to win 2 sets to win the match.

    • If the score reaches 1 set all, a deciding match tie-break (10-point), win by a margin of 2 points shall be played. If the tie-break score reaches 9 points all, one point (sudden death) shall be played to decide the winner of the match.

  • CALGARY

By participating in Community Tennis Leagues, players agree to the terms and conditions outlined below. Rules may change during the league season to ensure players are receiving a positive experience and the leagues are running smoothly.

Regulations

  • [1.1] Matches are self-umpired and should be conducted in the spirit of fair play.

    [1.2] No one at Community Tennis Leagues can take responsibility for the safety or security of players whether playing on the courts or in the facilities associated with the Leagues, or elsewhere.

    [1.3] Players compete at their own risk, and it is the player's responsibility to ensure any courts used are safe for play.

    [1.4] Players are solely responsible for finding/booking a court and supplying the necessary equipment.

    [1.5] Players must be 18 or older to register for these leagues.

    [1.6] Players must register and play under their real name (specifically not an alias, pseudonym or nickname) and must provide accurate contact details.

    [1.7] Players are expected to be respectful towards opponents, other tennis facility users and facility employees. Players demonstrating poor behaviour will be removed from the league.

  • [2.1] Balls – Balls must be of a good quality. We encourage players to share the cost of balls.

    [2.2] Courts – If applicable, please share the cost of the courts, and allow for two hours of play. Matches can be played on any court that suits both players.

    [2.3] Setting up matches – Players have a joint responsibility to set up matches. Please agree on the time, location and projected time frame for the match beforehand.

    [2.4] Rain – If it rains before the match starts, the whole match should be rescheduled. Don't make assumptions about the weather; be sure to contact your opponent to discuss the situation and to reschedule. If it rains during the match or court conditions deteriorate, either player may decide to call a halt to the match, and play can continue on another day.

    [2.5] Injuries & Retirement – If a player retires injured, unwell or for any other reason that constitutes a retirement, he or she loses the match, it cannot be replayed. The player who could have continued (the winner) will receive 1 point.

    [2.6] No shows and Walkovers – If a player has attempted to schedule a match twice and has received no response, the player can claim a walkover and receive 3 points. If a player does not turn up at the agreed time, or is more than half an hour late, the other player can claim a walkover and receive 3 points or the match can be rescheduled.

    [2.7] Cancellations & Rescheduling – If you are cancelling or rescheduling a match, make sure you get an acknowledgement from your opponent. If a player wants to cancel or reschedule a match they must give their opponent a minimum of 24 hours notice. If less than 24 hours notice is given, the match may be recorded as a walkover in favour of the opponent and points awarded, although it is still preferable to play the match if possible.

    [2.8] Limited Time - Please be respectful of municipal rules for the use of public courts. If the agreed time simply runs out for a match, we encourage you to complete it at a later date.

    [2.9] Coaching & Spectators – In all matches, coaching is not allowed. Communications of any kind, audible or visible, between a player and a coach shall be construed as coaching. CTL players are welcome to have spectators attend the matches, however, they strictly may not interfere with matchplay. Spectators are never to make calls. No spectator has a part in the match. You should never enlist the aid of a spectator in making a call or request the opinion of a spectator to resolve a dispute. Spectators should maintain a sufficient distance from the court to prevent unnecessary interference.

  • If conflict arises between two players we ask that you do your best to resolve it between yourselves by referring to the league Regulations. If the issue cannot be resolved amongst yourselves, you can email leagues@tenniscanada.com with information about the conflict. We will refer you to the League Regulations if it is clearly noted there, otherwise we will contact both players to help you find a solution.

  • [4.1] Online Submission – Following the match, it is the winner's responsibility to enter the score online. We encourage both players to verify the score before the winner inputs the score. To enter scores online (1) Visit the national-provincial match play platform and log in (2) Scroll down to the "My Box ladders" section and click on your League (3) Enter your scores under the "My upcoming matches" section.

    [4.2] Integrity – We rely on players entering accurate scores and match details. Falsifying a result in any way, including submitting a result for a match that was not played, may result in the disqualification of any of the players concerned. This provision also applies to falsifying the date of a match to earn bonus points or to make a match valid. Players are obliged to report any attempts to manipulate results.

  • [5.1] Name & Results – As this is a public league, your name and leagues results will be published online on the national-provincial match play platform.

    [5.2] Contact Information – By playing in the League you are authorizing us to share your contact details with other members of the League who are placed in the same group.

  • If you sign up for a Community Tennis League, we ask that you commit to playing all your matches. Honoring your league commitment ensures a fun and rewarding experience for all players. If you are unable to complete your league matches and need to withdraw from a session, please withdraw yourself on the platform and reach out to leagues@tenniscanada.com right away so that we can notify your group members.

    Once a session has started, Community Tennis Leagues does not offer any refunds. Credits may be issued at the discretion of Community Tennis Leagues.
