Meet the Players

"I've made a lot of friends with whom I play regularly nowadays and have become great friends off the courts as well. Overall, great experience, and I hope to continue playing in the upcoming sessions."

Anirudh, Burnaby & Vancouver CTL

"I'm very passionate about tennis and enjoy playing with different people. I've met players from across the city, gained some useful insights, and even play regularly with a few outside of CTL for fun."

— Sai, Toronto CTL

"It’s been fantastic to have the opportunity to play competitive matches regularly with players of a similar skill level, which has helped me improve my game significantly. Beyond that, it’s not only helped me grow as a player but also allowed me to meet wonderful people who share the same passion for tennis. It’s truly been the perfect mix of competition, socializing, and fun!"

— Rodion, Vancouver CTL

"It was a good opportunity for my doubles partner, Tomo and I to play against different styles of players. Definitely, the experience from CTL can help our games in the coming competition."

— Andrew, Vancouver CTL

During the Labour Day weekend, a first took place in Montreal: for the first time in its history, the Tennis Québec and Tennis Canada Community Tennis Leagues held a tournament to mark the 2024 summer season that is coming to an end. 32 participants, divided into 3 categories, met on both the indoor courts of the IGA Stadium and the outdoor courts on the edge of Jarry Park to compete!

"It was the first time I played in a tournament, the [CTL organizers] did a wonderful job to organize this event and I really loved the [Pro 8] format!"

- Irfan Khawaja, End of Season Tournament Participant

"It was a fun way to improve my tennis skills while playing with people of similar levels. The league provided a great opportunity to get some regular exercise and have some friendly competition. I met so many friendly people and made some great new friends. The relaxed atmosphere and social aspect of the league made it a highlight of my month."

— Walter, Edmonton CTL

"It was truly a great way to increase my court time and also play with an array of players of various backgrounds and skill levels. I like that it was co-ed and that I could play with men and women. Also it was great because we are all of different ages. Playing with fellow NBO volunteers was really special because we don't always get the chance to interact outside of our volunteer committees."

— Candace, NBO Volunteer CTL

"Because of joining the Community Tennis League, playing tennis has been an amazing journey that’s brought so much joy. It’s not just about the game—it’s about the friendships formed on the court, the discipline developed through practice, and the thrill of improving with each game."

— Hao, NBO Volunteer CTL

"If you're like me and love to compete on the court, sign up. if you have trouble finding players to play with, sign up. If you love playing tennis, sign up."

— Byron, Calgary CTL

"As a beginner who just started playing this spring, Community Tennis Leagues has given me the opportunity to connect with amazing individuals. Playing in the league has motivated me to keep improving my game while having fun on my tennis journey! It has left me with the itch to play every day and I can't wait to join future leagues."

— Mark; Calgary CTL

"The community tennis leagues have changed the competitive tennis landscape for me as an adult beginner. I love to compete in tennis and I enjoy tournaments, but this is such a great middle ground. It’s serious business because it affects your rating, but it’s also no big deal because it’s just you and your opponent meeting up at a public court when your schedules allow it."

— Edward, Halifax CTL

"CTL was a good way to meet new players. It was nice to have a somewhat competitive match setting, but with the flexibility to choose when you play."

— Braeden, Winnipeg CTL

"Playing in the leagues help me to play better during the tournament. It is a great chance to play with different people. Thanks to CTL, I got to meet and play with players who became tennis partners. I enjoyed the positive competition and the setting."

— Samira, Fredericton CTL

"With each game, I’m seeing some small improvements. It’s a great feeling of satisfaction to gain more consistency or enhance one small aspect of my game.”

— Shona, Niagara CTL

As a starter-level player, Lipsica sees the challenges involved in gaining access to programs and activities, and is hoping Community Tennis Leagues will be a catalyst to bring about many improvements in facilities and organization.

— Lipsica, Niagara CTL

Both Shona and Lipsica have been playing tennis for about four years and CTL is their first experience with the singles game.

“It’s not easy to meet players and find others with whom to have a relaxing game. When I saw the poster for Community Tennis Leagues, I thought it was a great idea and signed up right away. I’m encouraging others to do the same.”

— Melissa, Niagara CTL

After returning to tennis in adulthood through his daughter's passion for the sport and looking for friendly tennis, Steve has joined CTL hoping to take advantage of fine autumn days as the program extends into the fall.

"The Community Tennis League is a great way to meet a variety of players and learn about where they play and how they organize themselves.”

— Milla, Niagara CTL

Cornelius thinks that Community Tennis Leagues is “heaven sent” just for him. After recently relocating, he’s looking forward to establishing a new tennis circle and meeting with the other players in the group, as each has a different perspective and experience.

Shortly after picking up the game of tennis at a local park during the pandemic, it took very little time for Dave to discover and embrace all aspects of the joy of tennis : physical, mental, and social. When Community Tennis Leagues was announced, Dave jumped in right away. He’s enjoyed both sessions, meeting players he wouldn’t have encountered otherwise.

Li is enthusiastic about Community Tennis Leagues, and was very impressed when two players from Halton Hills were willing to travel to Burlington to play matches with her. She said:

“It’s great that we support each other and encourage each other. Tennis needs more of this!”
